Apple Fritters

A fritter is a fried food consisting of batter with bits of meat, seafood, fruit, or vegetables. Fritters can be sweet or savory. But my favorite (and probably yours too) is a good old fashioned Apple Fritter!

Homemade Cinnamon Apple Fritters can sound intimidating– but they don’t have to be. Many recipes call for a yeasted doughnut dough. Our dough is pretty simple, and not that dissimilar from pancake batter.

Adding big chunks of Granny Smith Apples makes for unique texture. I love having big pieces of soft cinnamon apple to break through the rich batter.

Cinnamon and Apples

Is there a better marriage of two flavors? I mean, seriously.

Apples and cinnamon are a classic fall combination. So it makes perfect sense to use Chef Shamy Cinnamon Honey Butter to flavor the batter.

Our Cinnamon Honey Butter is sweet with a great cinnamon kick. It adds fantastic flavor to the fritters, and keeps them sweet without being sickly.

Frying

Frying can be tricky. The key is to use a thermometer. There are lots of different kinds and brands, but you need something to keep an eye on the temperature of the oil. Consistent oil temp is the key to a good fry.

If your oil is too cool, the fritter will soak it up and be too fatty. If your oil is too hot, you’ll burn the outside before the inside is cooked.

And don’t panic if you don’t get it perfect the first time. We definitely needed a couple of practice fritters before we got it right!

Enjoy!
